I am posting this here for a Dutch DQ fan whom I recently helped get in touch with Beth.

I have the opportunity to ask Mrs. Beth Sullivan some questions for the Dutch Dr.Quinn website. If there are people here with questions for her, please forward them to info@drquinn.nl ! And maybe I will add them to the interview! I'll send the questions to her on October 4 so don't wait too long!

Hi, dear Mary Ann.
Of course you know I'm not German, but the questions I always have in my mind are: Why was it necessary to have the death of Ingrid, Becky and Anthony? I suppose Marjory's death was different because of her relation with Loren, and at that time it was hard to accept such a couple...
The other scenarios will have been different, sure, but the scenarists have enough imagination to write episodes with Ingrid, Becky and Anthony alive!!!!!
If you think you can ask these questions...
Thanks.
Love.
Geneviève

Genevieve, I sent your question on to the girl for Beth.
Sometimes characters die because the network wants to cut the budget, sometimes actors wish to leave. It will be interesting to see what Beth says

Genevieve,

From the interviews I've heard with Beth Sullivan, she was going for at least a measure of realism. Back in the 19th century, people died. They died early and from many causes, especially disease, but also accidents and wars, and often there was no cure. To have all the characters able to live no matter what just to keep them on the show would have been quite unrealistic for the time. Even having surgeries, people often died from infections (this was before antibiotics), something that only happened rarely on DQMW because they couldn't really portray things as they really were or people would get depressed. Doctors were referred to as butchers and sawbones back then. For good reason.
Sad

Actually Wendy, that is exactly what Beth told me was the main reason when we discussed it not long ago.

Hi Mary Ann,

I guess I must have been paying attention then. Can't remember where I heard all that, but maybe it was the 20-year-anniversary phone call, which I did listen to.

BTW, speaking of health problems, I heard from other long-time fans that know you that you had a car accident a while back. I'm so happy you're posting and apparently all better. Good job! Hope everything is back to normal now.

Poor Beth Sullivan. Hard to believe she isn't writing anymore because of hers. What a shame! Sad

Yes Wendy, in June I was hit by a car in the complex where I live walking through the parking lot after getting off the train. I am still on sick leave (long term disability now) and using a wheelchair at home but slowly getting better and have started using crutches a bit now that I can weight bear a little on my broken leg. It's a very slow process- but my fingers work fine, hence the posting LOL.

Ack! Well, thank God your fingers work, but that's terrible! Where's Dr. Quinn when we need her, eh? Or Matthew to smooth some of that green goop on your legs. Laughing I sincerely hope you recover completely. What a scary thing to have happen to you. Crying or Very sad

Has anyone read Beth's interview?

Hi Judy,

I read an article reporting an interview she gave for the first issue of DQ Times that someone sent me. I'm not sure if that's available anywhere online. It would be very cool it if were. I found it very interesting.

Thanks Wendy. Someone did an interview with Beth within the last month; It was discussed on Facebook so I was just wondering if anyone here read it. It would be interesting to compare it to the interview you reference.

Oh cool, Judy, I didn't know she did anything that recently. I don't go on Facebook except on rare occasions. I'll have to see if it's available somewhere else.

Well, I found it here: http://drquinn.nl/?Interviews:Beth_Sullivan

Quite an amazing interview. I learned so much!
