Award-winning actress, artist and home furnishings designer Jane Seymour exposed her comic side and a little more in the 2005 hit "Wedding Crashers." The former Bond girl ("Live and Let Die," 1973) also took a turn on the ABC reality show "Dancing With the Stars" and last year was directed by her husband, James Keach, in the sweet romantic comedy "Blind Dating," which is out on DVD in time for Valentine's Day. Married for the fourth time, the 57-year-old mother of four talks about love, romance and staying in shape. Born in England, she became a U.S. citizen in 2005 and will be doing 12 art shows around the country.
Q: Do you fall in love or out of love with more ease?
A: In love. Well, I mean when I was younger because basically I haven't fallen in love since I was married to James. But that's a hard question. I always seem to know. I know pretty quickly. My barometer is pretty good.
Q: When things are ending, do you know that as quickly?
A: No, it's horrible, painful. I hang in to the bitter end trying to make it work.
Q: What is the most romantic thing you've ever done or had done for you?
A: I think how James and I met, that was pretty romantic. I was producing a movie, and he was brought in to co-produce and direct it. I starred in it, and it was called "Sunstroke." We kind of hung out together while we were working. We didn't realize it was going to get romantic at that point. Then I think we realized we really wanted to be together. He was still married, unhappily married, but I said I wouldn't go out with anyone who was married. The next thing I knew he literally gave up his whole life to be with me. He gave everything to his ex-wife, and he put his personal possessions in the back of the car, and six weeks later he came to visit me in Austria. We didn't know where it was going to go. You know nothing had really happened. We just knew we had feelings for each other. We've been together ever since.
Q: So, this could be it.
A: [Laughing] It has to be it. We are not doing this again. This is it. This is it.
Q: In "Blind Dating" and "Wedding Crashers" your characters aren't shy about undressing. How comfortable are you with the shape you are in?
A: I'm actually pretty comfortable with my shape right now. Probably more at peace with my shape now than I was when I was younger. But, you know, at the same time, I'm not going to flaunt myself stark naked around the place. Certainly not wearing bikinis.
Q: Do you work at that?
A: Yes, I do to some degree. I'm not obsessive like some people. I tend to eat pretty sensibly. I like healthy food. I choose healthy food. I don't drink sodas, and I really don't eat desserts particularly.
Q: You've admitted to having some plastic surgery two decades ago. Would you ever do it again?
A: They keep misquoting me. I had my bosom done 17 years ago and around the same time I had my under eyes done. I'm trying to remember when they had to do the top of my eyes. I can't remember now. But I mean everything happened about 16, 17 years ago. I've never had a face-lift or dermabrasion or a laser peel or a tummy tuck or liposuction. I've never done any of those things.
Q: So how do you feel about those things or down the line doing any of that?
A: You know what? I take it a day at a time. If someone can do something that is so subtle that no one notices -- no one ever noticed that I ever did anything because it was remedial. You know? I didn't change the way I look. I just took care of what I'd lost by breastfeeding four babies. I just think everyone has different tastes. Right now I find it very bizarre to see actresses that have Botox. How can you act if your face doesn't move? I find this fake lip thing very bizarre and I think some of these fake cheek bones are a little strange, too.
Q: I think you probably see a lot more of it out there.
A: Oh, yeah, I'm like the only one out here who is looking like herself at the moment.
Q: Being sexy has definitely been part of your acting repertoire. What about off screen?
A: Um, I think I have a lot of personas. I keep that part of my life pretty private. I'm also a mom and I'm happily married. I'm a hot-blooded woman, the same as many other women are.
Q: What is the great motivator in your life?
A: Creative impulses and love and family. Fame, you know, I've had it from time to time. Money, I've had it once in a while and not had it. The only money motivation that I have is that I don't want to be broke. But, I don't have to be the richest person on the planet. When I am not acting, I'm designing everything from textiles to lamps to handbags. ... Being creative is what I love.
