Jane Seymour in Dear Prudence

Presented by the Hallmark Channel- August 23

Being produced by the Hallmark Channel as the centerpiece of its 2008 fall schedule of original MOWs, ‘Dear Prudence’ stars the attractive, charming and enduringly popular actress JANE SEYMOUR as a celebrity columnist and t.v. personality named PRUDENCE MCCOY.

Part Martha Stewart and part Katharine Hepburn, with a healthy dash of Irma Bombeck thrown in for good measure, Prudence McCoy is a compelling character – determined, funny, courageous and unwilling to take ‘no’ for an answer, regardless of the question.

This first outing finds Prudence reluctantly on vacation in Wyoming, where she’s under strict orders issued by her boss and long-time family friend to do nothing but rest, relax and recharge her batteries.

Resting and relaxing aren’t really options for Prudence McCoy and she quickly throws herself into solving the murder of the son of a women she meets in Wyoming and, by doing so, also saving a sacred Native American site from desecration.

To do so, Prudence uses her insatiable curiosity, her ability to see things that others miss, her inability to not get involved in peoples’ lives and her relentless determination to get to the bottom of what initially appears to be a suicide.

She’s assisted by her lovable, delightfully geeky and charming assistant, NIGEL FORSYTHE III, whose technical expertise and clever insights help uncover clues and evidence that are instrumental in solving this murder mystery.

Prudence is also helped by a local detective, EDDIE DUNCAN, (played by JAMEY SHERIDAN, star of ‘Law and Order’, ‘Chicago Hope’ and dozens of other movies and t.v. series) who has two ruling passions in life: being a great detective and being a Boston Red Sox fan.

Eddie’s initial and healthy skepticism about Prudence McCoy gradually overcome by her relentless persistence, passion and persuasive powers.

Prudence just knows she’s right about the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death. When she and Nigel uncover irrefutable evidence, even Eddie, the seasoned detective, has to agree that she’s actually on to something.

Prudence and Eddie start off rubbing each other the wrong way, much like Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn so often did in their nine films together (‘Pat and Mike’, ‘Adam’s Rib’, etc.), but as the story unfolds they begin to realize that the sparks they initially create might have more to do with a growing and unavoidable attraction they have for each other. A sweet and sensitive romance blossoms between the two of them.

By the end of the movie, Prudence has solved a murder mystery, saved a sacred Native American ground from desecration and discovered a part of her mother’s life (a secret love affair) that allows Prudence to take a new look at her own relationship with men and romance.

“Dear Prudence” is a project of Alexander/Mitchell LLC and is being distributed internationally by ITV, a London-based production and distribution company.Les Alexander and Rob Gilmer are co-writers and Executive Producers.
